Congrats to SNSD. But I have one thing to say to the fans.
You guys should be lucky and thankful that SNSD even appeared on an American show, let alone Letterman. I mean, a performance was good enough. You didn’t have to disrespect David’s other guests for taking up the girl’s “screen time.”
They were invited to perform. To promote. No one (in America, entertainment industry) knows who they are just yet. Yes, I get that they’re insanely popular and all that, but c’mon… I think an interview might be asking a little too much let alone them taking up the whole show. Just tune in for Live With Kelly.
Show some respect.
It’s annoying.
When Big Bang won Worldwide Act, when Girls Generation (SNSD) got on the front page of youtube, when Wonder Girls debuted in America*, negative comments flooded the wall. “Who the hell are they?” “Are they even famous?” “Why are they here?” How ignorant.
First of all, you’re on the internet. Go google them up.
Second of all, how disrespectful can you be? And it’s obvious it’s because they’re Asian. “Who are these Chinese groups?” Some people need to retake geography and realize China isn’t the only Asian country. Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, Thai, Cambodian—they’re not all “the same.”
Open your mind and shut your mouth, because k-pop is gradually taking over the world. I’m not much of a fan as I used to be a year ago. But because they’re finally getting recognition, people spouting racist, ignorant, and disrespectful comments are inevitable. Just because you’re hearing of them just now doesn’t mean they were not popular elsewhere.
K-pop (and J-pop, C-pop) fans, don’t worry about haters putting down your artists/groups. You know yourselves how strong the fanbase is. As long as you’re dedicated and support them, you will be one step ahead of the haters (they have much to learn). ;) just keep supporting your artist, help them take over the world—their faces everywhere— just to piss those haters off (trolol). Anyway, I’m glad to see how many foreign fans these artists have.
It just pisses me off to see someone listening to only mainstream music and put down some artist they never even gave a chance.
(* also, congrats on the comeback, girls!)
Key and Jessica “Barbie Girl” (omg, she makes the song so innocent. She’s pretty~)
is looking for International artists on her show. K-pop fans are spamming her twitter, youtube, site, facebook, and whatever else she has. They’re requesting for ShiNee, Super Junior, and SNSD—mostly. It got me thinking. Do you guys seriously want Shinee on an American talk-show? They’re feminine looking and as if Asian guys don’t get made fun of enough.
As far as K-pop goes, I think it’s best to introduce groups like 2PM, Big Bang (Taeyang), Jay Park, 2NE1, F(x)—the group that actually has a chance with America. And also, members from 2PM and f(x) can actually speak English.
I have a k-pop addict friend who showed our suitemate Shinee. I face-palmed. “They look gay,” our suitemate said. That’s the reaction I would expect from an American audience.
Anyway aside from K-pop, I recommended SCANDAL (Japan) and VanNess (Taiwan). VanNess is funny, talented, has a nice body—so why not?
Nuu. I just ruined my picture spam. I’ll probably private this rant later.
